Ecological Succession

INTRODUCTION

Ecological succession occurs when natural communities succeed over time; the habitats and species change over time. There is primary and secondary succession along with a climax community, which is the endpoint of succession.

  • Have students fill out the worksheet individually or in groups

LESSON

Through ecological succession, species can become endangered, or even extinct. However, ecological succession allows ecosystems to grow and new species to thrive in those communities.
