Nuclear Energy

INTRODUCTION

Nuclear energy is a form of energy that is released from the nucleus of atoms. There are two types of nuclear energy: fission and fusion

“Nuclear power is one hell of a way to boil water.” – Albert Einstein

ACTIVITY

Candy Uranium Atom

Materials: twizzlers, toothpicks, marshmallows, gumdrops, skittles // Duration: 10 minutes

  • The gumdrops, marshmallows and toothpicks are used for the nucleus

  • The twizzlers will make the shells

  • The skittles will be the electrons

LESSON

Nuclear energy can be used as an alternative energy source that would be much better for the environment, however it can also be used for the wrong reasons and can harm people and the environment. The waste produced from nuclear fission is highly toxic and has to be disposed of properly.
