Invasive and Endangered Species

INTRODUCTION

Invasive species are non-native to an ecosystem and are one of the leading threats to native wildlife. Endangered species are species that are very likely to be extinct.

“Invasive species’—they may not sound very threatening, but these invaders, large and small, have devastating effects on wildlife.” — National Wildlife Federation

ACTIVITY 1

Invasive Species Word Search (By BC Invasives)

Materials: printed worksheet, pencil // Duration: 10-15 minutes

  • Hand out worksheet to students

  • Have students complete the word search (individual or in groups)

LESSON

Invasive species can cause harm to an ecosystem; however, not all non-native species are invasive (National Geographic). Endangered species are so rare that they have a high possibility of becoming extinct.
